As disciples of Jesus and citizens of His kingdom, an essential part of our calling is outward – we are certainly called to let Jesus change our lives inwardly and to build relationships that reflect the King and His kingdom, but we are also called to change the world, or more accurately, to bring the world-changing Gospel to the world – the Gospel which is entrusted to us and which the Apostle Paul refers to as “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes,”and which “in all the world . . . is constantly bearing fruit and increasing.” This weekend Rich will be opening a new 16-week series from Romans entitled “The Gospel of God,” and as a small group community we will all have a wonderful opportunity to re-engage with the outward, world-changing power of the Gospel in which we are all called and privileged to participate.
Connected with The Gospel of God series will be nine short videos and small group Bible studies for you to use in your group. The first of these resources are now available at www.vcsmallgroups.org , and we’ll be adding more resources for the sereis week by week. (Though the series is 16 weeks long, most groups meet only every other week, so there will not be a study available every week. If your group meets more often and you need other resources, we’d encourage you to use some of the many excellent Bible study resources included on our website at www.vcsmallgroups.org ) We’re excited at the fruit the Lord will bring through The Gospel of God series, and we encourage your group to be involved.
Finally, to encourage your hearts and equip you and your group, please mark your calendars for Saturday, September 28 from 8:45 until 12 noon for our quarterly Small Group Leader Recharge gathering, followed by a wonderful equipping opportunity with Jay Pathak (formerly of Vineyard Columbus), author and current pastor of Mile High Vineyard in Arvata, Colorado. Jay will meet with our small group leaders’ community prior to a larger gathering, where as part of the Gospel of God sermon series he will be sharing about “The Art of Neighboring: How the Gospel Affects Where You Live.” Jay will help us all understand the outward, world-changing power of the Gospel available to us as we seek simply to love God and our neighbors – the people right outside our doors. A light continental breakfast and childcare will be available. For more information, see:
Much grace to all of you as you and your groups walk into another season together.
With affection and respect,
Co-ed Small Groups Pastor
